Broad Reach Power orders 118MWh battery energy storage system from China

2021-09-24
China Energy Storage Network News: According to foreign media reports, the US Independent Power Producer (IPP) Broad Reach Power recently stated that it has ordered batteries with an energy storage capacity of 118MWh from the Chinese battery manufacturer Shuangyili Battery Co., Ltd. (SYL Battery) Energy storage system for a grid-scale battery energy storage project planned to be deployed in California.

Broad Reach Power`s energy storage system is mainly used to build the 25MW/100MWh Cascade battery energy storage project deployed in Stockton, California. The company acquired Cascade from a subsidiary of the Enel Group in November 2020, marking its entry into the California energy storage market.

Broad Reach Power said that the transaction with Zhejiang-based fixed battery cells, battery packs, communication interfaces and overall system solutions provider Shuangyili is a general procurement agreement. The agreement will speed up the purchase of gigawatt-hour energy storage systems.

Broad Reach Power also ordered a 47MWh Battery Energy Storage System for another Sierra energy storage project deployed in Jamestown, California. In response to the 2017 purchase by the California investor-owned utility company Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), Enel submitted three planned battery energy storage projects, including the 10MW/40MWh Sierra energy storage project and Cascade energy storage project of 25MW/100MWh.

Enel won the 85MW energy storage system contract for the 165MW battery energy storage project purchased by Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) in this round. Both the Sierra Energy Storage Project and the Cascade Energy Storage Project were signed with the Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) A 20-year long-term offtake agreement is designed to help Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and California meet peak energy demand.

The California Independent System Operator (CASIO) said a few months ago that it expects to deploy 1,493MW battery energy storage systems on its grid by the end of the third quarter of this year, which will alleviate but not eliminate potential energy shortages. The Cascade energy storage project is scheduled to start operations next summer.

Founded in 2019, Broad Reach Power already has a total installed capacity of 3GW utility-scale solar and energy storage product portfolios in six states in the United States. The company announced last year and quickly deployed about 10 energy storage projects in Texas, each with an installed capacity of about 10MW, and subsequently deployed several 100W energy storage projects in the state. project.

According to industry media reports in August this year, Broad Reach Power signed a 1GW battery energy storage system order with China's solar energy and energy storage system integrator and supplier Sungrow Power for the deployment in Texas. Energy storage project.

Justin Amirault, senior vice president of corporate development at Broad Reach Power, said, [Our continued investment in high-quality energy storage equipment will help ensure the reliability of the grid and energy transition in the next few years. The internal standards carefully select battery energy storage system suppliers. This will enable the Cascade energy storage project to operate in the long-term and improve grid reliability."
